FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KAI NEVILLE’S LOST ATLAS WORLD PREMIERE SET FOR HUNTINGTON BEACH ON AUGUST 4

Event promises to bring “U.S. Open-size” crowds to the streets of Surf City

COSTA MESA, Calif. – July 6, 2011 – Dates and details are now set for the world premiere of Kai Neville’s highly anticipated surf film, Lost Atlas.

Unlike most world premieres, which typically require golden wristbands and secret handshakes, this one will play on a giant screen in the middle of Fifth Street in Huntington Beach during the Nike US Open of Surfing. In other words: Everyone’s invited.

Set for Thursday, August 4, from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the corner of Fifth Street and P.C.H., the event promises to be the largest surf cinema gathering in recent memory. “Surf films are constantly changing and the way we watch them is constantly changing,” says director/producer Kai Neville. “Lost Atlas represents another wild shift in performance surfing and we’re excited to show it to the world. It’s an unfiltered view of some of the world’s best young surfers, and we wanted the premiere experience to be unfiltered and fun like our time on the road.”

Working under Taylor Steele and Poor Specimen, Kai Neville released his first major film Modern Collective in 2009 and immediately set the new standard for elite-level surfing. Lost Atlas is the 26-year-old Aussie filmmaker’s first independent project and picks up were Modern Collective left off. Described as a movie about “youth on the run,” it bounces around the globe in no particular order and features the world’s most progressive surfers at their best and most honest, including Dane Reynolds, Jordy Smith, Julian Wilson, Dusty Payne, John Florence, Yadin Nicol, Kolohe Andino and a handful of others.

Full of raw, candid clips and scored to a soundtrack that veers across all genres with bands such as Dirty Beaches and Total Slacker, Lost Atlas takes the surf cinema experience way off the map. “Working with Kai is always fun because you know it’s gonna be big,” says one of Lost Atlas’s standouts Dusty Payne. “This was a fun project to work on because you want to put in your best effort so you can match the best. The world premiere is gonna be sick to see how many people gather to check it out. The movie is epic, too!”

With more than 500,000 people in attendance, the Nike U.S. Open of Surfing promises to be the largest action sports gathering of the summer. Many of the stars of Lost Atlas will be participating both in the competition and attending the premiere, creating the perfect opportunity to celebrate historic surfing simultaneously at the pier and on the big screen. The world premiere is open to the public and all ages are welcome. The premiere will also feature giveaways, prizes and athlete signings, making it a night to remember for anyone interested in the world’s best surfers and the world’s best surfing.
