tylerWar of the Stores Official Wrap Up:
Top 4 Teams:
1. Valencia Active featuring Torey Pudwill
2. Long Beach Active featuring Greg Myers
3. Orange Active featuring David Loy
4. Temecula Active featuring Chase Webb
MVP - Chase Webb ? Temecula Active
After 19 years and 25 stores after Active’s conception in Chino, CA, it was time for a face off between each location?s shop skate team. It’s all love really, but sometimes you?ve got to go to war!
In order to spice things up, we threw in some of our top Amature skateboarders onto the teams. Torey Pudwill, Terell Robinson, Greg Myers, David Loy, Lamare Hemmings, Jordan Hoffart, Daryl Angel, Theotis Beasley, and Tyler Hendley we just a few of the heavy hitters that were representing some of the shop?s teams. The top three teams came up on prize packages from the war’s sponsors; Boosted (sick new head phones from our friends at Boost Mobile), Matix, DVS, and Girl Skateboards. But, the top two teams walked away with cash!
The judges, including Active Pro Daewon Song, decided top honors and $2,000 went to the Valencia team who killed it all day long. Underdogs, Long Beach Active, came up big with second place and $1,000. Iggy and the rest of the Long Beach crew surprised everyone and was my favorite team of the day! The Orange crew had consistent lines all day which landed them third place. Ryan Reyes stuck the best trick of War of the Stores with a blunt kickflip fakie on the “Tombstone”. Not walking away with any prizes, but advancing to round two was Temecula with great skating from the day?s MVP Chase Webb. Temecula killed it along with Dakota Servold, Andrew Durso, Jeremiah Martinez as well as Chase Webb, even though they were down a rider. Temecula teammate and super ripper Anthony Pshebelski got hurt during warm up with a hard slam from the top of the “Tombstone” separating his shoulder and landed himself a concussion. Pshebelski says he will be ready for round 2 and that Temecula is looking to take the top prize! Watch out Valencia, this is War and War ain’t pretty!
The battle carries on when the top four teams compete again in May, at the newly refurbished Berrics Skatepark, for a chance to win custom Nixon watches for the whole team and a 50″ big screen TV for their home store! Stay tuned for more info on that event.
The video for War of the Stores will be posted on shortly so check back soon.
Thanks to all the sponsors and judges of the event who made the battle possible and to everyone who attended the day?s event in the heat!
